Cowgirls blast Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, TEXAS — Oklahoma State, which this week moved into The Associated Press Top 25 rankings at No. 24, opened conference play Thursday night with a 98-57 win over Texas Tech at United Supermarke­ts Arena.

The Cowgirls improved to 10-2 overall, while the Lady Raiders fell to 6-6. It was the first conference game for both schools. The win was OSU's ninth in the last 10 meetings between the two schools. Recee' Caldwell scored 20 points to lead Texas Tech, which had its three-game win streak snapped. Senior Kaylee Jensen scored 26 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her 32nd career double-double to lift OSU to its fourth straight win. The Genoa, Nebraska, native scored 16 points and had eight rebounds in the first half as OSU built a 36-28 halftime lead. The Cowgirls used a 9-0 spurt capped by a Jensen board and putback to build the lead to 47-30 with 5:49 left in the third quarter and were never threatened in the second half. At the end of the third quarter, OSU got a steal and went the length of the floor with freshman Braxtin Miller knocking down a jumper as time expired to extend the Cowgirls' margin to 67-45. In the fourth period, OSU held Tech scoreless for the first four minutes. Graduate transfer Loryn Goodwin added 20 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Miller chipped in with 17 points. OSU will be back in action on Sunday when the Cowgirls host Kansas State at 2 p.m.
