Edmond North wrestling coach Andy Schneider knew this year would be different.

The annual Three-Dog Night triangular meet between Edmond Memorial, Edmond North and Edmond Santa Fe has been dominated by North for nearly the past two decades.

But this year, Schneider said the dual with Memorial was a close as he can remember.

"Normally we come into this thing knowing the outcome," Schneider said. "But we knew this year it was going to take our best to win."

In the first match between North and Memorial at 132 pounds, junior Kobie Harris set the tone as he pinned Memorial senior Ty Lutze within 30 seconds.

Those points ended up being huge for North as Memorial won seven of the dual's 14 matches, but North had the advantage in bonus points after falls from Noah Hooks, Jake McCoy, Blake Minnick and Nick Steward sent the Huskies on a 24-0 run against their crosstown-rival.

North went on to win 39-24, after senior

Trent Higginbotham pinned his opponent in the final match.

North would go on to beat Santa Fe 68-9 to claim its 17th straight City Wrestling Championship.

"Anytime you are up against your rivals the kids hype it up," Schneider said. "We try to make it a big deal, and this year was by far the closest we've had in a long time."
