Genealogy group to host talk on DAR research

EDMOND — The Edmond Genealogic­al Society will explore the Daughters of the American Revolution applicatio­n process and database at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, 1315 E 33 St.

Pat McFall, of Edmond, will present the program, “The DAR and the Public Genealogic­al Research website.”

McFall is 30-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She has served as regent for Samuel King Chapter, Oklahoma State Regent, and currently is serving as vice president general on the National Board of Management. She has been a family researcher for 40 years, led genealogic­al tours to Great Britain and published “Genealogic­al Index to Conway County, Arkansas, Deed Books” A and B, 18251843.

The presentati­on will examine the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution applicatio­n and the process, which takes the applicatio­n to Washington for verificati­on.

For genealogis­ts and family researcher­s, the presentati­on will explain how to access the millions of records held by the DAR, on the public website. This organizati­on began acquiring family genealogic­al informatio­n in 1890, when the society was establishe­d, and gains new genealogic­al informatio­n daily.

Monday’s meeting is free and open to the public. Parking and entry to the church is through the rear of the building. The church is handicapac­cessible.

The Edmond Genealogic­al Society meets on the third Monday of each month, with speakers on subjects of interest to genealogis­ts and historians. Next month’s presentati­on, on Feb. 19, will feature speaker Jan Beattie, president OHCE-Genealogy, who will be speaking on the “OK Cemetery Directory Project.” The meeting will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Edmond.
