Arizona to hire former Oklahoma offensive coordinator Sumlin as head coach
Arizona has tabbed former Oklahoma offensive coordinator and Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin as its football coach.
Sumlin is expected to sign a five-year contract, pending approval by the Arizona Board of Regents. An introductory news conference is scheduled for Tuesday. He replaces Rich Rodriguez, who was fired Jan. 2 amid sexual harassment allegations.
The 53-year-old Sumlin was fired after six seasons at Texas A&M in November.
The Aggies hired former Florida State coach Jimbo
Fisher to replace Sumlin.
Bills hire Daboll as offensive coordinator
The Buffalo Bills have hired Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Dabollto to the same position.
Coach Sean McDermott announced Daboll’s hiring Sunday, two days after firing Rick Dennison.
Before joining the Crimson Tide last season, Daboll was the tight ends coach for Super Bowl-champion New England.
Rodman arrested on suspicion of DUI
Police say former NBA star Dennis Rodman has been arrested on suspicion of DUI in Southern California.
Lt. Rachel Johnson of the Newport Beach Police Department says the former Southeastern Oklahoma State standout was pulled over late Saturday for a traffic violation.
Johnson says officers administered a field sobriety test, which Rodman failed. She says he submitted to a Breathalyzer test and blew over the .08 legal limit.
Rodman was released from custody Sunday morning.
West Virginia reviewing court storm incident
West Virginia’s athletic department said Sunday it is reviewing an incident in which a player is seen striking a Texas Tech fan who had joined thousands of others in a postgame celebration.
Video posted on social media by fans at the game in Lubbock, Texas, show forward Wes Harris and other West Virginia players trying to reach the sideline as fans swarmed the court Saturday in celebration of No. 8 Texas Tech’s 72-71 win over No. 2 West Virginia.
The videos appear to show Harris striking a fan who had run into him before Harris is pulled away. Other players were involved in a separate skirmish trying to protect a teammate in the swarm.
The incident highlights the potential dangers of fans storming the court. In 2015, the Big 12 passed a measure giving commissioner Bob Bowlsby broad authority to fine schools that fail to keep fans off the court following games.
In 2014, Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart was suspended three games for going into the stands and shoving a Texas Tech fan in Lubbock.
Knicks sign Trey Burke
The New York Knicks have signed guard Trey Burke, a former lottery pick who had been playing with their G League team.
Burke was averaging 26.6 points for Westchester, second in the league when he was called up Sunday.
The point guard was the No. 9 overall selection in the 2013 NBA draft out of Michigan and was voted to the 2013-14 NBA All-Rookie first team while playing for Utah. He has averaged 10.6 points and 3.6 assists in 267 career games.
