Mayfield unsure if he’ll play in Senior Bowl
Though he’s going through practice in Mobile, Alabama this week, former OU quarterback Baker Mayfield told reporters after Wednesday’s practice that he isn’t sure if he’ll play in the actual game on Saturday.
Mayfield arrived after Tuesday morning’s media day after his mom, Gina, was in the hospital.
"Family matter, mom's not doing too great," he told reporters after participating in the first day of the Senior Bowl practice Tuesday. "Family first, always. Doesn't matter what the situation is. I would never put myself before my mom.
"She's slowly getting better. She's got a special appointment Thursday. As soon as I found out, I booked my flight home. It wasn't about delaying measuring in. I'll measure in tomorrow if it's that big of a deal. I don't care. Family first."
Mayfield did measure in on Wednesday morning, and he checked in just a smidge over 6-feet at 6-foot-3/8. He was listed at 6-foot-1 on OU's roster.
In addition to weighing 216 pounds, Mayfield’s hand was measured at 9 ½ inches. His wingspan was recorded at 73 inches.
Lampkin works out with actor, comedian Verne Troyer
Former OU defensive tackle Du'Vonta Lampkin had a mini-me with him for one workout during his preparation for the NFL Draft.
Actor and comedian Verne Troyer, most known for his role as in the Austin Powers movies, joined Lampkin for a day of training.
Troyer, who has Achondroplasia dwarfism, is just 2-foot-8 and weighs 35 pounds. Lampkin, by comparison, is 6-foot-4 and weighs 300 pounds more than Troyer.
Basquine medically cleared
After suffering a seasonending achilles injury in August, wide receiver Nick Basquine said he has been medically cleared to return.
“Thank you God, just got medically cleared,” Basquine tweeted earlier this week. “Comeback season is officially underway.”
Basquine, a Norman North product who started his career as a walk-on and earned a scholarship in 2016, played in all 13 games during his redshirt sophomore season. He had 20 receptions for 265 yards and two touchdowns.
Orso-Bacchus declares for NFL Draft
Redshirt junior Dwayne Orso-Bacchus recently announced his intention to declare for the NFL Draft.
“PSA: I am declared for the 2018 NFL Draft, I will not be playing my 5th season at Oklahoma,” he tweeted. “#SoonerNation It has been an honor to call myself a Sooner and OU will always have it’s place in my heart. #BOOM”
The 6-foot-5 former twostar prospect spent time on both the offensive and defensive lines during his OU career but didn’t play during the 2017 season.
His decision to make an early exit was unexpected, but it does free up one of the Sooners’ scholarships.
