Baylor rips Texas to stay unbeaten in Big 12
WACO, TEXAS — Kristy Wallace scored a careerhigh 27 points, big posts Kalani Brown and Lauren Cox both had double-doubles and No. 3 Baylor won its 15th straight game by overwhelming No. 6 Texas 81-56 in a matchup of the Big 12's top two teams Thursday night.
Wallace scored nine of her points in a game-turning 28-7 run for the Lady Bears (18-1, 8-0 Big 12), who were in control before the end of the first quarter. That spurt included a 14-4 run over the final 3 ½ minutes of the first quarter and a 14-3 start to the second quarter.
Brown had 17 points and 11 rebounds, her ninth double-double this season and 21st in her career. Cox had 17 points and 10 rebounds. The 6-foot-7 Brown and 6-4 Cox have combined for 129 points and 83 rebounds the last three games.
South Carolina rolls past Arkansas
COLUMBIA, S.C. — A'ja Wilson had 27 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocks in her return to the starting lineup to power No. 9 South Carolina to a 90-42 victory over Arkansas on Thursday night.
The Gamecocks (17-3, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) looked quick, powerful and eager to end things in a hurry with the 6-foot-5 senior Wilson back in the middle at the start for the first time since spraining her right ankle against Auburn on Jan. 11. Wilson missed two games, then came off the bench last Sunday to score 26 points in a win at Kentucky.
Lady Vols knock off Ole Miss
KNOXVILLE, TENN. — Rennia Davis matched a career high with 18 points and Jaime Nared had a double-double Thursday night as No. 10 Tennessee pulled away down the stretch for a 75-66 victory over Mississippi.
Nared had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Tennessee, which also got 16 points from Anastasia Hayes and 13 from Mercedes Russell. Davis had eight rebounds to go along with her 18 points.
Duke trounces Boston College
DURHAM, N.C. — Lexie Brown tied a school record with 14 points in the first quarter when she joined an exclusive club and finished with 19 points to lead No. 18 Duke to a 75-50 win over Boston College on Thursday night. Brown had five steals, which made her the third NCAA Division I player with at least 1,800 points, 500 assists, 200 3-pointers and 300 steals, joining Niesa Johnson (Alabama) and Odyssey Sims (Baylor).
Rebecca Greenwell also had 19 points, hitting four 3-pointers, and Leaonna Odom had 12 points for the Blue Devils (16-5, 5-3 Atlantic Coast Conference), who have won 29 straight home games, on shy of the school record.
Notre Dame blasts Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH — Jessica Shepard scored 28 points and No. 5 Notre Dame routed Pittsburgh 87-53 on Thursday night. Shepard was almost unstoppable in the paint for the Fighting Irish, who outscored Pitt, 48-18 inside.
MEN'S BASKETBALL Purdue wins 16th straight game
WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. — Vincent Edwards scored 30 points, Isaac Haas added 24 and No. 3 Purdue matched a school record with its 16 straight victory, using a late charge to finally get past No. 25 Michigan 92-88 on Thursday night.
