Giants to retire Barry Bonds’ jersey

- FROM WIRE REPORTS

Home run king Barry Bonds will have his No. 25 jersey retired this August by the San Francisco Giants when his former Pittsburgh Pirates are in town.

The Giants announced Tuesday they would hold a ceremony to honor the former slugger and seventime NL MVP on Aug. 11. He will become only the 12th player from the New York or San Francisco Giants to have his number retired.

Bonds, now 53 and an adviser in the club’s front office, broke Hank Aaron’s home run record with No. 756 on Aug. 7, 2007. He finished his 22-year big league career that season with 762 homers and under a cloud of steroids allegations. On the 10th anniversary of his record-breaking blast, Bonds said he wished he could have played one more season with San Francisco and believes he might have reached 800 homers.

Source: Todd Frazier, Mets agree on 2-year deal

A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press that free agent third baseman Todd Frazier and the New York Mets have agreed on a two-year contract for $17 million.

The person spoke Monday night on condition of anonymity because the deal was still pending a physical.

Frazier turns 32 next week. He hit a combined .213 with 27 home runs and 76 RBIs last season for the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees.

A two-time All-Star, Frazier hit 35 homers for Cincinnati in 2015 and 40 for the White Sox in 2016.

The Mets still have captain David Wright on the roster, but the longtime third baseman’s future is in doubt after injuries and a chronic back condition limited him to 75 regularseason games over the last three years. He hasn’t played in the big leagues since May 2016.

Eason transferring to Washington

Washington announced former Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason is transferring to the Huskies.

Eason was a five-star recruit from Lake Stevens High School near Seattle. He signed with Georgia in 2016 and started as a freshman, but injured his knee in last season’s opener and never could regain his starting job from freshman Jake Fromm. Georgia went to the national title game with Fromm. Soon after, Eason said he was transferring back home.

The day before signing day in college football, Washington made it official with a tweet. Eason passed for 2,458 yards and 16 touchdowns with eight interceptions in 16 games for Georgia.
