OU Dance sets Daddy-Daughter Ballet Class, performance
NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma School of Dance invites families to dance in a Daddy-Daughter Ballet Class and attend a performance by OU Dance students at 6 p.m. Feb. 16 in Room 3002 at Reynolds Performing Arts Center, 560 Parrington Oval, on OU’s Norman campus.
“Whether you’ve danced for years or never stood at a barre, we welcome you to celebrate dance with us,” OU School of Dance Director Michael Bearden said.
Children ages 5 to 12 and their fathers aren’t the only dancers welcome to the ballet class, taught by OU Instructor Rebecca Herrin.
Mothers, guardians, siblings, grandparents and other close family also are welcome to attend.
OU Dance students will perform at 7:30 p.m.
The brief performance will feature choreography by Bearden and a preview of “Skinwalkers,” a work by David Hochoy, 2017 Susan E. Brackett Distinguished Visiting Artist Chair.
Three students from the OU School of Visual Art will paint and sketch the performers as they dance. A reception will follow the performance.
Hochoy, artistic director of Dance Kaleidoscope in Indianapolis, visited OU in October 2017 for one week to stage “Skinwalkers” for Contemporary Dance Oklahoma, OU’s modern dance company.
The complete work will be performed March 2-4 and 9-11.
The ballet class is $25 per pair. There is no cost to attend the performance.
For reservations, email dance@ou.edu or call 325-4051 by Feb. 15.
