Finalists named for teaching honor
The Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools and Oklahoma City Public Schools have named nine finalists for 2017-18 district Teacher of the Year. They are:
Cynthia Bothwell, Capitol Hill High School, algebra I; Anthony Chancellor, Belle Isle Enterprise Middle School, leadership; Dwight Cunkle, Horace Mann Elementary School, vocal music; Joanna Eldridge, Edgemere Elementary School, special education; Doretha Guion-Colbert, F.D. Moon Academy, fourth grade; Jamie Hinds, Webster Middle School, English language development; Kyla Kaufman, Bodine Elementary School, visual arts; Jami Keys, Coolidge Elementary School, special education; and Cara Viviani, Sequoyah Elementary School, prekindergarten.
The finalists will be recognized at the Stars of Education celebration May 1 at the Historic Farmers Public Market, 311 S Klein. During the ceremony, they will receive cash awards and the district Teacher of the Year will be announced. The winner will be the district’s candidate for Oklahoma State Teacher of the Year. Wednesday on “The University and Race Relations.” Both forums will be in GC 219-220 on the OBU campus.
Jones and Williams are co-authors and editors of the book “Removing the Stain of Racism from the Southern Baptist Convention,” which focuses on the diversity of black and white perspectives on the history of racism in the denomination and aims to heal racial wounds.
