OU softball tops Pacific to close weekend in Phoenix

The top-ranked Oklahoma softball team concluded its weekend at the Grand Canyon University Kickoff Tournament with a 7-0 win against Pacific on Sunday in Phoenix.

Five of the Sooners’ runs came in the second inning. Nicole Pendley and Caleigh Clifton singled and Fale Aviu drew a walk to load the bases. Kelsey Arnold singled to drive in Pendley and Clifton. Senior Lea Wodach then homered to score three more.

In the third, Clifton drove in Jocelyn Alo on a double, and in the fourth, Sydney Romero scored Arnold with a sacrifice fly to center field.

Paige Parker was dominant in the circle for the Sooners (5-0), striking out five and allowing just one hit in five innings. Nicole Mendes pitched the final two innings to seal the victory.

OSU softball rolls past Western Michigan

The Oklahoma State softball team tied a program record for runs scored in a game as it rolled to a 21-5 win against Western Michigan at the Kajikawa Classic on Sunday in Tempe, Arizona.

The Cowgirls (4-1) got on the board in the first inning with a pair of two-run homers from Vanessa Shippy and Jessi Haffner.

In the third inning, OSU’s Sydney Pennington launched the first pitch of the frame over the wall in left-center field. Randee O'Donnell blasted a three-run shot over the left field wall and Madi Sue Montgomery capped the top of the third inning with an RBI single up the middle. The Pokes logged eight runs in the frame.

OSU scored nine more runs in the top of the fifth to secure the victory.

In the circle, Emmie Robertson earned the win after holding Western Michigan scoreless in the first three innings.

Kendal Judge pitched the final two frames. She allowed six hits and 4 earned runs in her debut as a Cowgirl.

OU women's gymnastics: Sooners beat Tar Heels

The No. 1-ranked Oklahoma women’s gymnastics team defeated North Carolina 198.150-195.750 at Lloyd Noble Center Sunday afternoon. Sunday’s score was the third-straight mark of 198 or higher for the Sooners. Sophomore Maggie Nichols won the all-around title with a 39.675. She scored her second perfect 10 of the season on beam. The sophomore now has nine career perfect scores and five on beam.
