Manufacturing bellwether

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York releases its monthly snapshot of manufacturing activity today.

Last month’s Empire State Manufacturing Survey showed that manufacturing activity expanded at the slowest pace since July. While the index only measures manufacturing activity in New York, economists track it because it provides an early read on factory output nationwide.
