Alleged gang member arrested in slaying
A 35-year-old who police say is a member of the Indian Brotherhood gang was arrested Friday in connection with an early-morning shooting that left one man dead and three people injured.
About 12:25 a.m. Friday, police responded to a disturbance at a home in the 1700 block of SW 15, where they reported finding four people who apparently had been shot. David Shatswell, 46, Samantha Whitecrow, 28, and Harley Andrews 35, were taken to local hospitals for treatment of wounds.
Police said Shatswell was in critical condition and Whitecrow was in serious condition. Andrews’ injuries were reported as non-lifethreatening
A fourth victim, Aubry Steven Johnson, 66, of Norman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators were able to talk to one of the victims, who was not identified in a court affidavit, who said Augustine “Gus” Curtis came into the home and fired a handgun before fleeing. The victim said they had never seen Curtis before the shooting but had heard from other people that Gus had been threatening to shoot him, according to the affidavit.
The victim said the threats started after he had “fallen out with the Indian Brotherhood,” a gang to which Curtis belonged, according to police records.
Curtis was arrested and was being interviewed by Oklahoma City detectives Friday afternoon. He was expected to be booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a murder complaint, police said.
Curtis has a number of convictions in Oklahoma, including assault and battery, robbery, possession of a firearm after a felony conviction and bringing contraband into a jail, Oklahoma Department of Corrections records show.
