Seminary will offer program in Oklahoma City
Phillips Theological Seminary is offering its InterReligious Understanding program on Tuesday evenings beginning March 6 in Oklahoma City.
The InterReligious Understanding program is open to the entire community. The program was renewed in 2015 to help educate the public on a variety of religious traditions. This is the first time the program will be offered in Oklahoma City.
“With many different religious traditions thriving in our community, knowing how to interact with others who practice different forms of worship and have different holidays is becoming a necessary skill,” Anna Holloway, director of the InterReligious Understanding program, said in a news release. “It’s also a great way to practice that form of ‘love your neighbor’ known as the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated.”
The program will run every Tuesday from March 6 through April 24, with a break on March 27 for Holy Week.
From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., a practitioner and teacher in one of seven traditions — Christianity, American Indian traditions, Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism and Hinduism — will provide an overview of the history and the practices of the religion. Each session will be at the KOSU Performance Space in the Hart Building, 726 W Sheridan.
“We’re pleased to have this program at KOSU in Oklahoma City’s Film Row,” Kurt Gwartney, senior director of seminary relations, said in a news release.
“We appreciate public radio’s support of multiple voices on important matters in the community, including faith.”
Participants may attend any session individually or sign up for the entire series. Each single course is $20. Full program registration costs $110. Phillips Theological Seminary provides two continuing education units (CEUs) for participants of all seven sessions.
Course registration is now open at ptstulsa.edu/ CurrentIRUSessions.
