Tulsa doctor’s license suspended
The medical license of a south Tulsa doctor has been suspended amid a federal investigation that reportedly connects him to numerous overdose deaths since 2011.
The Oklahoma State Board of Osteopathic Examiners suspended the license of Dr. Christopher Moses during an emergency hearing Thursday, Executive Director Deborah Bruce confirmed Monday.
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency has been investigating Moses, who operates Southside Medical Clinic at 8222 S Harvard Ave., since at least September after receiving complaints about his prescribing large amounts of prescription narcotics, court records show.
Agents raided the doctor’s office in late January as part of the investigation into alleged drug trafficking and diversion, and seized 63 boxes of documents and four bags of computer hard drives.
Investigators reportedly have connected Moses to at least eight overdose deaths between July 2011 and February 2017. An affidavit indicates that Moses wrote narcotics prescriptions for the deceased.
According to the affidavit, Moses wrote about 25,400 prescriptions from January 2016 to this Jan. 3, equating to about seven per hour. Painkillers and alprazolam — the antianxiety medication Xanax — accounted for about 70 percent of the prescriptions.
