C-SPAN motor coach has stops in OKC, Norman

C-SPAN's state-of-theart, 45-foot customized motor coach will stop in Oklahoma City and Norman as part of C-SPAN's 14-month "50 Capitals Tour."

Partnering with Cox to engage teachers, students, community members and elected officials through interactiv­e demonstrat­ions, the bus will welcome visitors at four events over two days.

On Wednesday, C-SPAN will host Gov. Mary Fallin for a live interview on the morning call-in program "Washington Journal." The bus will be open for tours Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the state Capitol South Plaza and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Classen School of Advanced Studies, 1901 N Ellison.

Thursday tours will be from 9 to 10 a.m. at Norman High School, 911 W Main St., and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Norman North High School, 1809 Stubbeman Ave.

Rose State to host second Black Male Initiative Summit

MIDWEST CITY — Rose State College will host its second annual Black Male Initiative Summit from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the Rose State Community Learning Center. The theme is "College Just Got Real."

This year's speakers are Asa Leveaux, Quentin Dixon and Anthony Crawford. The summit aims to increase the high school and college graduation rates of black males by providing resources to local middle school, high school and college students seeking guidance to further their education.

The event is coordinate­d by the Rose State College Graduation, Retention, Advocacy and Diversity Center (G.R.A.D.) and Brothers and Sisters in Action. Registrati­on is free and can be found online at www.rose.edu/bmi.

Winners announced for state aviation art contest

The Oklahoma Aeronautic­s Commission has announced the winners of the Oklahoma 2018 Internatio­nal Aviation Art Contest. The top three entries in each age division are forwarded to Washington, D.C., to compete nationally for the right to advance to the internatio­nal competitio­n.

The state-level Aviation Art Contest encourages youth to reflect on aviation by designing a piece of art based on a theme. With the theme "Flight into the Future," this year's contest had 1,301 entries from 81 schools across the state.

Winners in the Junior Division, ages 6 to 9, are Isabella Walker, from Robin Hill School in Norman, first; Sydney Morgan, from Morrison Elementary, second; and Abigail Burt, also from Robin Hill School, third.

Winners in the Intermedia­te Division, ages 10 to 13, are Sophia Greenley, from Yukon Middle School, first; Vareeksha Sharma, from Hooker Public Schools, second; and Kylie Mass, from Yukon Middle School, third.

Winners in the Senior Division, ages 14 to 17, are Laura Rose, from Vanoss Public School, first; Michelle Montes, from Guymon High School, second; and Janessa Chastain, from Maryetta School in Stilwell, third.

Trevor Rooney from Cimarron Middle School in Edmond received the first Heart of Oklahoma Aviation Honor award for an exceptiona­l art entry by a student with a disability.
