Carl Albert coach Jay Price can feel the mood switch this time of year.

When Trey’von Hopkins gets serious, it’s time to watch out.

“This is the time of year is when he really picks it up,” Price said. “You can see his effort in practice, effort in games go through the roof. He loves this time of year.”

As the playoffs near, Carl Albert continues to roll. The Titans have won 11 straight games and the effort and attitude from Hopkins has been a big reason why.

Against Piedmont last week, Hopkins finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. He followed that up with a 28-point performance against Class 6A Shawnee.

For his performance, Hopkins has been named The Oklahoman’s Player of the Week.

“His athleticism has always been special,” Price said. “But he’s starting to show some of his leadership skills because he knows the route to a championship and how to play in big games.”

While fellow Carl Albert senior Mason Harrell has gotten the headlines for his fantastic play, Hopkins has been right there beside him as a four-year starter.

“Those two complement each other perfectly,” Price said. “Those guys being the kind of stars that they are and the leaders that they are, it gives you some comfort as you head into the playoffs.”
