Oklahoma State picked up a commitment from a Tulsa Washington junior on Monday.

Defensive back Demarco Jones announced he is committing to the Cowboys just days after he received a scholarship offer.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Jones is OSU’s third commitment in the 2019 class and second in state. Collinsville tight end Grayson Boomer is also committed.

Jones is a three-star recruit, according to Rivals. com. He also had an offer from North Texas.

He helps form perhaps the most talented secondary in the state. Tulsa Washington star Dax Hill, the younger brother of OSU running back Justice Hill, is regarded as the state’s top 2019 prospect. He also holds an offer from OSU.

Spring sports media day Wednesday

The Oklahoman’s annual Spring Sports Media Day is set for Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Bishop McGuinness High School.

The event will be held in the lobby of the gymnasium, beginning at 3:30 p.m. and ending at 7:30. The school is located at 801 NW 50 Street in Oklahoma City.

Visitors are asked to enter from the Interstate 44 service road off Western Avenue.

Each Oklahoma City-area high school participating in baseball, golf, track and field, soccer, tennis and slowpitch softball is encouraged to bring athletes to meet The Oklahoman’s high school coverage team for interviews, videos and photos that will be used throughout the upcoming season.

Edmond Santa Fe’s Ford adds OSU offer

Edmond Santa Fe junior Trace Ford’s recruiting stock is still rising.

Just last week the 6-foot2, 225-pound linebacker and defensive lineman added an offer from Oklahoma State and Eastern Michigan.

This comes after attending junior days at Memphis, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas in just the past three weekends.

“He’s a freak athlete,” Edmond Santa Fe coach Kyle White said. “Everybody wants to talk about his first step and how explosive it is.”

Ford, who also plays baseball, now holds six scholarship offers, all coming since Jan. 26. He’s regarded as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com.

Elsewhere, OU also offered Tulsa Washington sophomore athlete Javian Hester. Hester is a receiver and defensive back for the Hornets.

Island becomes Calumet’s all-time scorer

Calumet senior Riley Island continues to rack up the points.

After scoring 45 points against Lomega in a 72-51 victory on Saturday, Island moved into the No. 24 spot on the Oklahoma High School Boys Basketball scoring list.

Island currently sits at 2,634 career points. The point total edged him past Shane Hansen to become the No. 1 scorer in Calumet school history.

While Island still has games remaining to expand his scoring total, the playing days of New Lima’s Micah Lena came to an end, but not before he broke some records himself.

Lena, who scored 23 in a playoff loss to Velma-Alma, totaled 1,024 points on the season, sliding one point ahead of former Norman North guard and current Oklahoma Sooner star Trae Young for the 15th most in a season, according to iwasatthegame.com.

Here are some other high school basketball players who hit scoring bench marks this season: Choctaw’s Brock Schreiner surpassed the 1,000 point mark earlier this month as well as Minco senior guard Cade Shirley.

Carl Albert senior Mason Harrell shot past 2,500 career points earlier this season.

Bailey Golden of Choctaw and Ali Brzozowski of Harrah both passed 1,000 points for their careers earlier this month.
