OKC trout fishing will be allowed after season ends

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Oklahoma City’s annual trout fishing season at Dolese Youth Park Pond, 5101 NW 50, will end Feb. 28, but anglers can continue to fish for trout as long as trout remain.

Beginning March 1, the daily catch limit will remain at six trout per day, but anglers will be allowed to use up to three rods per person.

Only one rod or pole per angler may be used during the official trout season.

“Hosting the annual trout season allows the Parks & Recreation Department to offer winter fishing opportunities to local anglers who may not otherwise get to fish for trout without leaving the city,” city fisheries biologist Bob Martin said.

Dolese Youth Park Pond and the city’s annual trout season are part of the “Close to Home” Fishing Program sponsored by the Parks & Recreation Department and the state Department of Wildlife Conservation.

The annual trout season is co-sponsored by Dolese Brothers and the 89er Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

To fish for trout, all anglers between the ages of 16 and 62 must have a city fishing permit. Exemptions are made for people with disabilities and people who are legally blind.

Permits cost $18.50 for an annual permit or $3.50 for a daily permit. City fishing permit sales support the operation of the City’s fisheries program. A state fishing license also is required.
