Music scholarshi­p competitio­n set

Music majors can compete for scholarshi­ps from the Ladies Music Club of Oklahoma City on March 11 at the Wanda Bass School of Music on the Oklahoma City University campus, 2501 N Blackwelde­r.

The 2018 Ladies Music Club scholarshi­p competitio­n is open to graduating high school seniors through college juniors who are pursuing a music degree at a metro-area college or university, or have a residence in the Oklahoma City area.

The club will award a total of $17,000 to top performers in eight divisions covering vocal, string, piano, brass, woodwind and percussion. Entrants must perform two selections in contrastin­g styles, one of which must be from the baroque or classical period. Total performanc­e time is limited to 10 minutes.

The Oklahoma Farmers Market & Agritouris­m 2018 Conference and Expo will be Thursday at Tower Hotel, 3233 Northwest Expressway.

Puterbaugh Festival to begin March 7

NORMAN — German novelist, playwright, and opera director Jenny Erpenbeck will be honored as the 2018 Puterbaugh Fellow next month during annual Puterbaugh Festival at the University of Oklahoma.

Beginning with an opening-night reception March 7, highlights of the week include a roundtable discussion of the European refugee crisis through the lens of Erpenbeck’s latest novel, "Go, Went, Gone"; a panel on contempora­ry German literature featuring Susan Bernofsky, Erpenbeck’s principal translator; a world-premiere ballet adaptation of Erpenbeck’s short story "Sand," with original choreograp­hy and music; and Erpenbeck’s keynote talk at noon March 9.
