OU, OSU drop in ESPN/USA Today softball poll

After dropping the first game of the season over the weekend, the Oklahoma softball team fell a couple of spots in the weekly poll.

The Sooners moved from their top spot to No. 5 in the ESPN/USA Softball Collegiate Top-25 after going 1-1 in the Troy Cox Classic. Florida moved up a spot to take over as the top-ranked team.

After both Friday games were rained out in Las Cruces, New Mexico, OU dropped the Saturday morning game to Boston University, 4-3.

The Sooners came back to defeat New Mexico State later that evening, winning 2-0.

OU enters the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, California, at 6-1.

The Sooners are slated to begin that tournament on Thursday with games against Arizona State and Team Japan.

Oklahoma State (8-2) dropped a spot in the ESPN/USA Softball poll to No. 16 after losing to No. 10 Tennessee in the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Foundation Invitation­al in Clearwater, Florida.

OSU will also play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, opening with games against Wisconsin and Oregon State. OU and OSU will not play each other in this weekend's tournament.

Sooners shine at Puerto Rico Classic

The No. 6-ranked Oklahoma men’s golf team finished in second place out of 15 teams at the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the par-71 Ocean Course at the Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

OU finished with a threeday total of 855 (+3), just one stroke behind Clemson’s 854 (+2).

At the Puerto Rico Classic individual tournament, the Sooners claimed the top three spots on the leaderboar­d as OU’s Riley Casey placed first among 23 competitor­s at the par-72 River Course at Rio Mar Beach Resort and Spa.

The sophomore posted a 215 (-1) in three rounds, besting teammate Rylee Reinertson by one shot. OU's Garett Reband tied for third place after shooting 219 (+3).

Hole-in-one for Neilsen, Cowgirls finish eighth in New Orleans

Oklahoma State senior Kenzie Neisen shot a holein-one in the final round of play to help the Cowgirl golf team finish in eighth place at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercolle­giate in New Orleans.

Neisen used a 9-iron to record her first ace as a Cowgirl, and it came on the 138-yard par 3 No. 3. The senior finished the day 3-under par 69 and ended the tournament tied for 32nd place.

Florida won the 17-team tournament at 9-over 873, while Gator Sierra Brooks won the individual crown at 7-under 209.
