Legendary Oklahoma track coach Stone dies

Glen Stone, who coached track at McAlester High School, Eastern Oklahoma State Junior College in Wilburton and Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, died Tuesday after a battle with lung cancer. He was 83.

Stone coached track at Eastern from 1968-88 where his teams won 10 national championsh­ips. He coached OBU's track and cross country programs from 1991-96 where his squads finished in the top five in the country five times.

He led McAlester's boys track team to state championsh­ips in 1967 and 1968. He is a member of the NJCAA Track Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Track Coaches Associatio­n Hall of Fame. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, in McAlester.

Quarter horse season begins Friday

Remington Park's 30th American Quarter Horse season kicks off Friday and will run through June 2.

Regular racing will take place Thursdays through Sundays throughout the season. Racing begins at 6 p.m. each day except Sundays when the first race will start at 1:30 p.m.

Key racing dates for the 2018 quarter horse meet include the 77th Oklahoma Futurity on March 24; the Remington Park Futurity on April 21; and the Heritage Place Futurity on closing night, June 2.

Milligan named Big 12 Golfer of the Month

Oklahoma freshman Kaitlin Milligan has been named the Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month for February, the conference announced Wednesday.

The former Norman North standout took second place in the Westbrook Invitation­al in late February with a 54-hole total of 199 (-17) — the lowest individual tournament score in OU history.

Milligan opened the event with a 62 (-10) in the first round, marking the lowest 18-hole score in program history (previous low was 65), the best in Big 12 history and the lowest in NCAA Division I women’s golf this season.

OU women's golf second

Oklahoma women's golf took second place at the Hurricane Invitation­al on Wednesday in Coral Gables, Florida. The Sooners carded a three day score of 869 (+5) to finish three shots behind host Miami (866, +2). Thirteen teams competed in the tournament.

OU's men's golf ties

Oklahoma men’s golf tied for sixth place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The Sooners shot 290 (+2) during Wednesday’s final round to finish with a three-day total of 867 (+4). Florida placed first in the 15-team tournament with a three-day total of 859 (-5).
