Museum welcomes visitors ‘Into the Fold’
Origami creations ranging from mere millimeters tall to more than 80 feet long will be showcased in the exhibit “Into the Fold: The Art and Science of Origami” at Science Museum Oklahoma’s smART Space galleries, 2020 Remington Place.
A gallery opening is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The event is free and open to the public.
The exhibit explores the diverse styles, backgrounds and techniques of nearly 30 origami artists from across Oklahoma, the nation and the world, as well as the unique applications for the art form, from solving problems in the fields of robotics, medicine and space exploration to uses in fashion and architecture.
“Into the Fold” will feature the work of some of the world’s foremost origami creators, including physicist Robert Lang, wildlife biologist Bernie Peyton, MIT faculty Erik and Martin Demaine and professional artist Paul Jackson. Oklahoma artists Zephyr Andrews, William Larason, Larry Pickering, Klint Schor and Jianlan You will have art included in the show.
Visitors will not only see more than 100 origami pieces and learn about how origami is used in science, but they also can try their hands at creating their own shapes in the exhibit’s hands-on space. “Into the Fold: The Art and Science of Origami” will be open through Jan. 13 and is included with general admission.
