CJ Briley split two defenders and dashed down court when he saw his brother wide open.

The two gave a silent signal. CJ Briley tossed, and Robert Briley flushed it home.

“Pretty fun way to end it,” CJ Briley said. “One last oop to my brother.”

The slam was an exclamation on the night for Wright City as it closed out Latta 62-49 in the Class 2A boys state championship game at State Fair Arena.

The slam gave Robert Briley, a senior, two of his 14 points on the night to go along with a gamehigh 11 rebounds and five assists. C.J. Briley, a junior, scored a teamhigh 18 points on perfect 7-of-7 shooting while also recording three steals and two assists.

The duo says they have worked for three years to get to this point and bring Wright City its first championship in any sport.

“We just wanted to bring this one back home,” CJ Briley said. “To close it out with my brother like this. It’s pretty special.”

Senior guard Dalyn Burrell, one of five seniors on the team that have won 103 games during their career, added 15 points.

“I’m so proud of all these guys,” Wright City coach Joel Dickerson said. “I had so many alums and former players messaging me all week to ask us to bring this title home.

“They are so pumped to be able to accomplish that.”
