Mustang softball erupts in first inning
Mustang’s home slowpitch softball opener last week lasted just 2 innings, but featured 30 total runs.
And 23 of those came in the first inning for the Broncos, who routed Newcastle 28-2.
Mustang hit nine home runs in the first inning. Before an out was even recorded, eight homers were hit and 17 runs were scored. Four of the homers came from the first four batters to open the inning.
Anna Hammer hit two homers, including a grand slam after the first out. Mallory McCoy and Kaitlin Peters also hit two homers apiece in the inning.
Mustang entered Monday’s doubleheader with Weatherford 2-0.
Jones pitchers combine for no-hitter
Class 3A No. 5-ranked Jones pulled a rarity last week on the baseball field.
The Longhorns had two pitchers combine for a one-run, no-hitter over 10 innings in a 2-1 win against Chisholm.
Jones pitchers Grant Harrison and Jase Farmer combined for the no-hitter, striking out a total of 21 batters.
Jones is 3-1 entering its spring break. The Longhorns return March 20 against Wellston.
OCA announces All-State Wrestlers
The Oklahoma Coaches Association announced the annual All-State wrestling teams for this summer’s -meet scheduled for July 25 at a Tulsa-area venue yet to be announced.
