OU women's gymnastic squad remains No. 1

The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team remains No. 1 in the nation with a regional qualifying of 197.995.

The score is based on a team's six best regular season scores, three of which must be from away meets. The overall high score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged. Oklahoma has scored 198 or higher six times this season.

LSU ranks second with a 197.755, followed by UCLA in third with a 197.725. Utah (197.415) and Florida (197.365) round out the top five.

Additional­ly, the Sooners are in the top five on all four events. OU possesses the highest average on vault and bars.

Six Sooners hold 12 individual top-25 rankings, led by sophomore Maggie Nichols who is ranked first in the all-around.

The Sooners travel to Alabama and Texas Woman's University this weekend, meeting the Crimson Tide on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Tuscaloosa. The meet against Alabama will air on the SEC Network.

OU then goes to Denton, Texas to take on the Pioneers Sunday at 2 p.m.

Clift named to All-Region team

Oklahoma Christian guard Addy Clift was named to the NCAA Division II All-South Central Region first-team women's basketball team on Monday.

Clift, a 5-foot-7 junior from Kiowa, led the South Central Region in scoring this season at 21.7 points per game, a total that puts her among the top 10 scorers in Division II.

The All-Region teams are voted upon by sports informatio­n directors from universiti­es and conference­s in the three leagues that make up the region – the Heartland, Lone Star and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference­s.

As a first-team all-region selection, Clift will move onto a ballot for All-America considerat­ion.
