OU Physicians opens new clinic in south Tulsa

- BY MIKE AVERILL

TULSA — OU Physicians is taking the first steps of a two-year growth plan with the opening of a new south Tulsa clinic.

The University of Oklahoma-affiliated health care provider opened a clinic at 106th Street and Memorial Drive in the old WellQuest building on Wednesday.

“This is an opportunity to make ourselves available to people in Tulsa who may have found it difficult to use our services before,” said Dr. James Herman, chairman of OU Physicians in Tulsa. “We are putting ourselves in places where people live and would like to see our practices grow over time.”

OU Physicians primarily has a presence in midtown and north Tulsa. This clinic is the first in an effort to create a larger coverage area.

“We want to position ourselves so we are available to people throughout the Tulsa area,” Herman said, adding that the practice is hoping to open additional locations in east and west Tulsa.

Herman said that in the next several months the plan is to expand the south Tulsa clinic to include women’s health and other specialties on site.

“We want to offer primary care backed up by our cadre of specialists and subspecialists,” he said. “When people become ill, they don’t want to search around for the specialists they need. It’s very helpful to know you have someone who knows your family and can be around for all types of care.”

Dr. James Beebe is the first doctor named to the new south Tulsa clinic. He is board certified in family medicine and completed his residency at the OU College of Medicine in Tulsa.

“My goal is to provide a full spectrum of service to the community from children all the way up through geriatrics. What makes family medicine unique is that we are able to handle all the age groups,” he said.

The 10,414-squarefoot clinic has 16 exam rooms, on-site laboratory and X-ray facilities, and a community room for education and events.

The clinic offers extended hours and is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
