Five players to watch this season
The high school tennis season has already started. Here are a few metro-area players to watch this year:
Girls
Natalia Jabrzemski, Jr.,
Norman North: The two-time doubles champion will try things solo this year after the graduation of older sister and doubles partner Nina.
Kat Pham, Sr., Classen SAS: After finishing fifth in Class 4A last year, Pham is back and eager to make a run at a state title.
Addison Miller, So., Deer Creek: A two-sport star, Miller finished sixth last season in Class 6A No. 1 and will fight for the top spot this year.
Jenna Noel, Jr., Westmoore: Noel finished third in Class 6A No. 1 singles last season, her second top-four career finish in the event.
Ryan Thompson, Jr., Heritage Hall: Finished as the runner up last year for the Class 5A No. 1 singles. Thompson won No. 1 singles at her school's regional and finished with a 29-4 record as a sophomore.
Boys
Phillip Baker, Sr., Mustang: A basketball standout, Baker’s massive 6-foot-4, 255-pound frame stands out on the court. Baker played doubles last year alongside Collin Smith, and the duo finished fifth.
Michael Grunsted, Sr., Norman: Looking for a title after placing second last year at state in Class 6A No. 1 singles, the COAC Singles Player of the Year is a levelheaded player who never seems to get flustered.
Trey Huelskamp, Sr., Heritage Hall: Part of a Class 5A No. 2 doubles championship pair last year, Huelskamp returns this year as the main guy for
the Chargers in Class 5A No. 1 singles. Brogan McLaughlin, Jr.,
Edmond North: McLaughlin is back after winning the Class 6A No.1 doubles title and is expected to be contend for a singles championship.
Jack Wagner, Jr., Mount St. Mary: Wagner placed third last year in Class 5A No. 1 singles after winning it all the year before. Look for him to make another run this year.
