UCO student, ex-football player shot to death

Police are investigat­ing a Wednesday night shooting death of a University of Central Oklahoma student and former football player.

The victim has been identified as Collis Walker, 22, a starter at UCO in 2016 who was finishing his degree there.

Walker, of Dallas, was a starting defensive lineman for the UCO Bronchos from 2013 to 2016, said Chris Brannick, UCO sports media relations director.

About 8 p.m. Wednesday, police found Walker in a vehicle in a parking lot at 12241 N Pennsylvan­ia Ave., police report. The death is being investigat­ed as the 17th homicide of the year in Oklahoma City.

Ray Walker, owner of Camelot Square Wine & Spirits, 12247 N Pennsylvan­ia Ave., said someone came into the store Wednesday night and asked a clerk to call 911. Walker said he did not know any more about what happened.

Corey Walker, 33, of Dallas, the victim’s brother, said Collis Walker was planning to graduate from UCO in May.

Corey Walker said he did not know what happened Wednesday night and had not had a chance Thursday to learn further informatio­n from police investigat­ors.

“I just miss my brother,” Corey Walker said.

In a statement, UCO President Don Betz said the university’s Center for Counseling and Wellbeing is available to help students, faculty and staff in the wake of the death. The center may be reached at 405-9742215 or uco.edu/studentaff­airs/scc.

“We’re saddened to hear of the death of Collis Walker, a senior at UCO and former Broncho football player,” Betz said. “Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”
