Big East calls for change to rule
The Big East has recommended replacing the one-and-done rule with a two-or-none policy in college basketball.
The Big East has recommended replacing one-and-done with a twoor-none policy in college basketball, along with NCAA regulation of agents and the creation an elite player unit to focus on “players with realistic aspirations of playing in the NBA.”
The Big East’s recommendations come a week after a similar report by the Pac-12 for NCAA’s commission of college basketball, led by former Sec. of State Condoleezza
Rice. The commission was created in response to a federal investigation into corruption in college basketball.
Big East’s plan calls for replacing the NBA’s so-called one-and-done rule with a “none-or-two” requirement. Basketball players who decide to go to college would have to commit for at least two seasons. Meanwhile, high school players who declare for the NBA draft would forfeit future college eligibility.
Cincinnati fires women’s head coach
Jamelle Elliott was fired Wednesday as the women’s basketball coach at Cincinnati after nine years of working to revive a program that was finally back in winning form.
The Bearcats went 19-13 last season — their best in 15 years — and lost to Michigan State in the first round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. They were 113-162 in Elliott’s nine seasons, including an appearance in the WNIT in 2012.
Cincinnati is coming off its first back-to-back winning seasons since 2005-07.
Elliott came to Cincinnati after being a star player at Connecticut and an assistant coach for 12 years.
