Man arrested in connection with 2012 slaying

A man who admitted his role in a 2012 fatal shooting in Oklahoma City has been booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a murder complaint.

Anthony Jess Coldiron-Rangel, 23, was arrested in Shawnee on March 14 on outstanding warrants unrelated to the Nov. 5, 2012, shooting death of Cody Davis, 21.

About 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 5, 2012, Oklahoma City police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call to the 2700 block of Meridian Avenue. Officers found Davis at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to OU Medical Center, where he died.

Police found Davis’ car about a block and a half away from where he was found. Investigators said the vehicle’s engine was running and blood could be seen inside and “bullet defects” were observed in the rear driver's side window, according to a court affidavit.

Davis’ girlfriend at the time of his death told investigators that he went to meet someone to sell about 7 ounces of marijuana.

After his arrest in Shawnee, Oklahoma City investigators interviewed Coldiron-Rangel, who said he had been involved in Davis’ death. He said he and four other people had drove to meet Davis to “rob Cody of his drugs.”

He said two people walked up to Davis’ car and one person pulled out a gun and pointed it at Davis’ head. Coldiron-Rangel said Davis moved in the car as if he was reaching for a gun and was shot multiple times.

Coldiron-Rangel said he got into the victim’s car and began to drive it away but was blocked by an apartment gate, so he abandoned it and fled.

Another man was arrested in 2016 in connection to Davis’ death. Miciah Raymond Fauteux was arrested on Nov. 3, 2016, and later charged with first-degree murder in Oklahoma County District Court.
