Kimray helps former employee with Habitat home

The Stapleton

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

The Stapleton is a Craftsman-inspired, country cottage-style home.

It is equally well-suited for construction in a suburban neighborhood, or as a vacation retreat with plenty of room for family and friends. It has a ground-level owners’ suite and three bedrooms, plus a bath and bonus room on the second floor.

Stone veneer bases draw attention to slender wooden posts that support a vaulted entry porch with a nostalgic stickwork gable. Craftsman windows, multipane at top, ornament the front facade, while shake-textured siding draws attention to the upper triangles of the side gables.

Family living spaces fill the entire front of the ground floor, with the foyer at center. The foyer is completely open to the living room on the left, while the right leads into the dining room and kitchen. Stairs to the upper floor are opposite the front door.

The large country kitchen creates a natural center for day-to-day family living. This layout is ideal for the multitasking required of contemporary parents. Kitchen workers can keep tabs on children playing out front, supervise the homework scene at the dining table, and tend to laundry in the nearby utility room, all while preparing the meals needed to keep everyone happy and healthy.

The centrally located bathroom and utility room do double duty, serving as sound buffers for the owners’ bedroom at the rear. Sliders in the bedroom, along with another set in the living room, access a partially covered patio.

Three more bedrooms plus a bathroom, linen closet, and huge bonus room are upstairs. The Stapleton’s bonus room could be used for storage, outfitted as a music or art studio, or whatever strikes your fancy.

MOORE — Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity dedicated its 920th home to former Kimray employee Stephen Sandini and his family on Thursday at 843 SW 14 in Moore.

Oklahoma Citybased Kimray donated $45,000 toward the home build and team members volunteered 380 hours building the home for their former colleague. Sandini, his wife, Terece, and their two children accepted the keys to the home in a dedication ceremony.

Sandini became inspired to become a homeowner after being given the opportunity to volunteer with Habitat building homes while working at Kimray. When Kimray learned Sandini qualified for a Habitat home, the company and team members jumped on board to help.

“We are beyond excited to dedicate this home to the Sandini family. To see all the moving parts work together has been magical,” said Ann Felton Gilliland, Central Oklahoma Habitat chairman and CEO. “Granted, that magic came with a lot of hard work. The Sandinis put in 300 hours of sweat equity to serve as a down payment on their home, they also attended our homeowners college, and will make zero interest mortgage payments on the home.”

Sandini said working with Habitat and Kimray on the home build has been a blessing.

“To have Kimray and former co-workers help our family reach our goal and dream of building our house is amazing,” he said. “They helped during each step of the process, making each phase move faster.

“I also loved that Central Oklahoma Habitat let us choose which flooring, counter tops and brick color we wanted, which really helped make the house feel like it’s ours. We have so much to look forward to. We will finally have a place to settle down and call our own. It’s an investment in our family’s future and finances.”
