Las Vegas Stadium Authority signs lease with Raiders

- FROM WIRE REPORTS

The Las Vegas Stadium Authority has signed the final documents necessary to build the future home of the Raiders.

Team President Marc Badain and authority chairman Steve Hill signed the lease and development agreements on Wednesday for the $1.8 billion, 65,000seat stadium that also will serve as home to the UNLV Rebels.

The move came a day after NFL owners voted 31-1 to approve the stadium plans and financing, including a $200 million loan from the league. The domed stadium is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 1, 2020.

The signing of the lease agreement — more than a year in the works — clears the way for the Clark County Commission to consider issuing construction bonds for the project. A total of $750 million in Clark County hotel room tax revenue will go toward the project.

As part of the deal, the 62-acre stadium site that the Raiders purchased last year for $77.5 million is scheduled to be transferred to the Stadium Authority on Friday.

The climate-controlled stadium where the team wants to kick off the 2020 season will feature 80-foottall retractable doors that will give fans a view of the casino-resorts on the Strip. Nevada officials expect 450,000 people a year to travel to Las Vegas primarily to attend an event at the venue, whether it’s a Raiders or college football game, a concert or motorsports event.

•Former TCU and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Trevone Boykin was arrested Wednesday at his North Texas home and charged with aggravated assault after his girlfriend accused him of beating her severely at his home.

Boykin was arrested at his Mansfield, Texas, home after Mansfield police reviewed footage of a March 21 incident captured by Boykin’s security video system, according to a police statement.

He’s been booked into the Mansfield city jail and remains without bond, pending arraignment.

Seattle released Boykin from its practice squad Tuesday after WFAA-TV in Dallas posted an interview with Boykin’s girlfriend in which she alleged he broke her jaw.

•A person with knowledge of the deal says the Denver Broncos have acquired safety Su’a Cravens from the Washington Redskins.

As part of the deal, the Broncos and Redskins flipped fourth- and fifthround picks from this year’s draft. In addition, Denver sends a fifth-rounder to Washington — also from this year — and a conditional sixth-round pick in 2020.

Cravens was a secondround pick by Washington in 2016 following a standout career at Southern California.

•The Browns have traded former starting quarterback Cody Kessler to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Cleveland will get back a conditional seventh-round pick in 2019 for Kessler, who started eight games as a rookie in 2016 but has been sliding down Cleveland’s depth chart.
