The Oklahoman

5K run to assist cancer charity

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Superheroes of all sizes will invade Norman on April 14 for the Holy 5K Batman! family event to support Oklahoma children with cancer. Proceeds will benefit Ally’s House, a nonprofit that provides financial support to Oklahoma families whose children have been diagnosed with cancer.

The event will be hosted by Calvary Church, 3730 N Porter. In addition to the 5K and 1-mile fun run, there will be live music, food, bouncy houses and family activities.

Registration is $30 for the 5K, and $25 for the fun run. Participants will receive a T-shirt and other items.

Register and get more information at www. allyshouse.org or www. calvarychurch.tv. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. with the 5K scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and the 1-mile run at 10:15 a.m. Linda Webb, executive director of Ally’s House, said those who don’t run can walk or just join in the fun in support of families.

“A child’s cancer diagnosis turns life upside down,” said Webb, who is also Ally’s mother. “Community support can help these families know they’re not alone.”

Ally’s House was established in 2004 in memory of Allison “Ally” Webb who died from kidney cancer just before her 3rd birthday. It has assisted hundreds of families of children with cancer across Oklahoma. The assistance takes the form of medical bills, rent or mortgage payments, transportation to and from treatment, prescriptions, and other critical needs.
