Oklahoma State softball falls to Tulsa 7-4
The Oklahoma State softball team fell to Tulsa 7-4 on Wednesday in Stillwater.
OSU rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game after five innings, but Tulsa scored three runs in the top of the sixth to put away the Cowgirls.
OSU’s Madi Sue Montgomery tied the game with a two-run homer to center field, but the Cowgirls’ fifthinning rally was quickly washed away following a leadoff home run by Rylie Spell in the top of the sixth.
Tulsa notched two more runs in the sixth inning to cap off its 7-4 victory.
Wichita State downs OSU
The Wichita State baseball team beat Oklahoma State 7-5 on Wednesday in Wichita, Kansas, snapping the Cowboys’ four-game winning streak.
With the game tied 5-5 entering the bottom of the seventh, Wichita State scored two runs to seal the victory.
The Cowboys return to Big 12 play on Friday at Kansas State.
OSU’s softball series at Kansas rescheduled
Oklahoma State’s threegame softball series at Kansas has been rescheduled due to expected cold temperatures and inclement weather in Lawrence this weekend.
The two teams will now play a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 2 p.m., with the second game scheduled to start at approximately 4:30 p.m. Game 3 of the series is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, weather permitting.
Gasso, Lombardi named to USA Softball Women’s National Team coaching staff
Oklahoma softball coaches Patty Gasso and Melyssa Lombardi are adding another line to their already impressive résumés.
The OU head coach and pitching coach will be assistants on the 2018 USA Softball Women’s National Team. It’s the first national team coaching assignment for both women.
The pair will kick off the summer at the Japan All Star Series, the team’s first summer event, with Oregon State head coach and four-time Olympian Laura Berg serving as the head coach.
Gasso will get the chance to lead the team as the head coach for a second U.S. roster at the USA Softball International Cup, and Lombardi will be one of the assistants.
Though there aren’t any Sooners on the 2018 Japan All-Star Series roster, former Sooner pitcher Keilani Ricketts will play with the national team in the 2018 World Championship in Chiba, Japan.
OU-Iowa State softball series moved to Norman
Due to temperatures forecast below freezing and snow expected on Sunday in Ames, Iowa, the OU-Iowa State series is moving to Norman this weekend.
There will be a two-game doubleheader on Sunday at noon and 2 p.m. and a series finale on Monday at noon.
Season tickets will be honored all three games and fans can also purchase general admission tickets.
OU (31-2, 6-0) enters the series riding a 22-game win streak and swept Baylor in Waco, Texas last weekend.
