- FROM STAFF REPORTS

First-responders from Norman and Moore will compete in a basketball tournament April 21 that benefits a Norman youth organization.

The fourth annual “Heroes on the Court” event will take place at 10 a.m. at Norman North High School, 1809 Stubbeman Ave.

Public safety firstresponders from Norman and Moore will participate in a single elimination basketball tournament. A free festival will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature public safety vehicles on display, inflatables and games.

The tournament will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person and free for children 5 and younger.

The event benefits Loveworks Leadership, a nonprofit in Norman that serves middle school students and offers afterschool programs, leadership training, community initiatives and summer leadership camps.

“Since our inception in 2011, we have reached over 10,000 students ages 11-14 years old from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Our programs are designed to empower the creativity, resourcefulness and potential within each student in an effort to develop their character, academic and leadership abilities to ensure future success,” said Michael Hirsch, executive director of Loveworks.

Norman Police Chief Keith Humphrey said his department is honored to participate in the annual event.

“Our hope is that this event continues to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community,” Humphrey said.

Tickets will be available at the event. To purchase advance tickets or for more information, go to www.loveworksleadership.org.
