OU beats ORU
The Oklahoma women’s tennis team shut out Oral Roberts Thursday at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, downing the Golden Eagles with a pair of 4-0 victories.
With the victories, OU improves to 12-9 overall, while Oral Roberts fell to 9-14.
The No. 16 Oklahoma men’s tennis team opens Big 12 play Friday as it hosts No. 19 Baylor at 6 p.m., followed by a clash with No. 29 Texas Tech on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
Parker finalist for national award
Oklahoma pitcher Paige Parker has been chosen as one of 10 finalists for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award in college softball.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced earlier this month. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately on the Senior CLASS Award website through May 14.
Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners.
The softball winner will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, May 31-June 6.
Energy FC U23 squad to meet FC Wichita
Energy FC's under 23 team will meet FC Wichita of the National Premier Soccer League in the first round of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The match is scheduled for May 9 in Wichita at Adair-Austin Stadium on the campus of Friends University at 7 p.m.
In the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, amateur and pro teams compete. The single elimination a tournament is open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer.
It has crowned a champion each year since 1905 and is named after United States soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.
Their match in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open will be the Energy FC U23s first of the season. Their regular season opens in May.
