Wintry weather possible in OKC

Despite the budding trees and recent warm days, spring in Oklahoma City is set to take a wintry turn Saturday morning.
Most of the state is under a freeze warning through 10 a.m. Saturday, which could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, the National Weather Service reports.
In Oklahoma City, there’s a possibility for freezing precipitation in the form of light sleet and snow, said Cheryl Sharpe, meteorologist for the weather service. Temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-20s overnight and into the morning.
The best chance for the precipitation is set to develop between 10 p.m. Friday and into Saturday morning. Sharpe said it should move out of central Oklahoma about sunrise.
She said what does fall is not likely to stick because of warm ground
temperatures. There could be some accumulation on grassy areas, but it’s not likely on roadways.
The weather service is forecasting the possible accumulation of less than a half-inch overnight in the Oklahoma City metro area.
Temperatures are expected to climb to a high of near 45 degrees Saturday.
Sharpe said it’s not that rare for parts of Oklahoma to have freezing precipitation in April, saying that it’s a month of transition.
Overnight temperatures for Saturday are expected to be in the mid-30s and temperatures are expected to climb to about 60 degrees for a high on Sunday.
