Salvation Army shelter to benefit from donations

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Two Men and a Truck OKC has selected The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command’s emergency shelter to benefit from this year’s Movers for Moms campaign.

“We wanted to find a way to support those women who find themselves in an emergency shelter on Mother’s Day. What better way to celebrate them than to provide them with a collection of comfort and essential items to brighten their day,” said Adam Mecke, general manager, Two Men and a Truck OKC.

Two Men and a Truck has locations across the United States, and all will be collecting donations for distribution to local women’s and family shelters for delivery on Mother’s Day. Last year, the program collected more than 295,000 essential care items for women in hundreds of shelters across the nation. This year, the national goal is 310,000 items.

“We are extremely grateful to have partners that want to step in and bless the women who are residing in our emergency shelter,” said Maj. Thomas McWilliams, area commander of The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma Area Command. “Many who find themselves in need of shelter have nothing but the clothes on their back. This Mother’s Day will be a very special day for our women’s and family shelters and one that will show how much each is loved and cared for.”

Two Men and a Truck OKC is partnering with Legacy Cleaners locations in Edmond and Oklahoma City, as well as Venturis Clinic. Each location will have a drop-off box for anyone wishing to donate to the Movers for Moms program.

Donations being encouraged are: Nice soaps and shower gels; robes; housecoats; slippers; shower shoes; perfumes and body sprays; scented lotions; manicure kits; and combs and brushes. All donated items should be new.
