Teel leads Cowboys past Wildcats

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Carson Teel’s complete game performance lifted Oklahoma State to a series win over Kansas State as the Cowboys claimed a 6-1 victory Sunday in Manhattan, Kansas.

The win was the fifth in a row in conference play for the Cowboys.

Teel’s complete game was the first of his career and the first by a Cowboy pitcher this season as he improved to 4-1.

The junior left-hander scattered six hits, all singles, and recorded nine strikeouts, one shy of his career high, in the 142-pitch effort. Teel’s previous career-long outing was 7 1/3 innings, which came earlier this season at Arizona State in a relief effort.

Offensively, Matt Kroon went 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and a pair of runs scored, while Jon Littell had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs in four trips to the plate.

Monday’s series finale is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

OU wins series at TCU

No. 19-ranked Oklahoma split its doubleheader against TCU on Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas. The Sooners earned a 6-3 victory in game one to clinch the threegame series before falling 6-2 in the finale.

Steele Walker homered twice to power the Sooners in game one, while righthander Devon Perez went 5.2 innings in the start.

Perez scattered six hits and two walks, resulting in three runs all scored in separate frames.

Connor Berry got his second save of the weekend and seventh of the season. He entered with a man aboard and nobody out in the ninth. A double play immediately erased the leadoff baserunner and Berry got the next batter to fly out to center to complete his inning and claim the series.

•In game two, Nathan Wiles took the loss in a 5.2-inning start. He gave up three runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The Horned Frogs outhit the Sooners 7-5. Shortstop Adam Oviedo led all players with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate.
