Dallas picks Goodwin
The Dallas Wings chose Oklahoma State standout Loryn Goodwin in the second round of the WNBA Draft on Thursday night.
Loryn Goodwin will be heading back to her home state of Texas for her first season of professional basketball.
In need of a backup point guard and more bench prowess, the Dallas Wings addressed both needs when they picked Goodwin, the Oklahoma State point guard, with the 18th overall pick in the WNBA Draft on Thursday night.
Goodwin, from Cypress, Texas, in the Houston area, showed her versatility as a scoring point guard who can also impact the game defensively in her lone season at OSU.
The 5-foot-9 graduate transfer from UT-San Antonio, Goodwin averaged 20.6 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals this past season, helping Oklahoma State to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
She led the Big 12 Conference in scoring and steals, and was second in assists.
The Wings have Skylar Diggins-Smith in the starting point guard position after a 2017 season in which she averaged 18.5 points and 5.8 assists.
Dallas added to its frontcourt with its other two picks in the draft, selecting 6-6 Azura Stevens of Connecticut in the first round, and 6-5 George Mason center Natalie Butler in the third round.
Goodwin was one of only four players from the Big 12 to be selected, along with Texas guard Ariel Atkins (Washington), Baylor guard Kristy Wallace (Atlanta) and West Virginia forward Teana Muldrow (Seattle).
The Las Vegas Aces had the No. 1 pick in the draft and selected South Carolina star A'ja Wilson.
The WNBA season begins May 18.
