EDMOND — Former Oklahoma running back Roy Finch was arrested Sunday on complaints of drug possession and assaulting a police officer.

Edmond police were called around 6:30 a.m. Sunday after a caller said a car had been parked and running for more than an hour in an apartment complex.

Officers found Finch in the vehicle smelling of marijuana, according to a police report.

When officers tried to handcuff Finch, he swung at one of the officers and took off through the complex after the altercation, police reported.

Officers found Finch near a gate and another altercation ensued, according to police. Officers used a Taser on Finch, hitting him between the shoulder blades, but the Taser was "not enough contact to be able to take Finch to the ground."

Numerous officers finally were able to get Finch to the ground and eventually get him in handcuffs, police reported.

During the scuffle, Finch received cuts to the right side of his face and was given a medical checkup once in custody.

Finch was arrested on complaints of assault and battery on an officer, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.

One Edmond officer suffered minor injuries in the altercation.

Finch is being held in the Oklahoma County jail.

In a separate incident, Finch was charged with possession of a controlled substance in Lincoln County in March and was scheduled to make an appearance there Monday.

Finch grew up primarily in Florida but attended Edmond North as a sophomore and chose the Sooners over Stanford.

In four years in Norman from 2010-2013, Finch rushed for 1,412 yards and six touchdowns and had 58 catches for 442 yards and a pair of scores.

His most productive season came as a sophomore in 2011, when he had 605 yards rushing and 296 yards receiving.

After his career with the Sooners, Finch went undrafted, briefly signed with the New England Patriots before landing in the Canadian Football League.

There, he won the CFL's Outstanding Special-Teams Player award in 2017 with the Calgary Stampeders.
