Bell wins in Richmond
Norman native Christopher Bell won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Richmond Raceway on Friday night.
EDMOND — Mustang center fielder Logan Glass set his feet as he waited for the fly ball to land in his glove. He had no doubt his throw would be on line.
As he fired, his belief proved true. A perfect throw easily nailed Westmoore’s Jacob Clark at the plate to preserve Mustang’s lead and ignite a five-run rally the next half inning.
“I knew he was tagging,” Glass said. “I honestly just let it go. You’ve just got to believe.”
That play propelled Mustang to a 7-3 victory over Westmoore in a rematch of last spring’s Class 6A state championship game Friday afternoon in the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Tournament at Edmond Memorial.
It was the second time a Westmoore runner was caught at home plate. Each time, Mustang responded with a run.
“You make plays like that, it definitely helps,” Mustang coach Keanon Simon said. “It was a momentum boost. You could feel it.”
The combination of brothers Gavin and Garrison Sochar held Westmoore’s potent offense to just eight hits. Gavin threw four innings and allowed two hits and an unearned run.
Mustang entered Friday’s late game with Edmond Memorial on a roll, having won seven of its last eight

Piedmont’s Price headed to Community Christian
Tim Price’s tenure as Piedmont’s girls basketball coach lasted one year.
Price resigned this week to become the boys basketball coach at Community Christian, according to the Piedmont Gazette.
Piedmont was 14-13 under Price, missing the state tournament following a 2017 appearance.
Price spent the two previous seasons as Weatherford’s boys basketball coach. That came after a highly successful tenure at Carl Albert in which he led the Titans’ girls basketball team to the state tournament in 10 of 11 seasons.
