OKLAHOMA SCENE OSU announces plans for jumbotron

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Friday, Oklahoma State officially announced its plans to add a large-screen video board to Boone Pickens Stadium.

The jumbotron will reside on the east side of the stadium, attached to Gallagher-Iba Arena. The screen will measure 56 feet by 110 feet; the 6,160-square-foot video board is the third largest in the Big 12 and eighth largest in college football.

"This board not only modernizes the game day experience in Boone Pickens Stadium, but it also brings Oklahoma State to the forefront in this area," OSU athletic director Mike Holder said in a news release. "We have taken input from fans and I believe that adding a premium board like this is a game-changer for all of us who attend Cowboy football games."

Holder also thanked OSU fans Gary and Claudia Humphreys in the release; the money for the board was all raised privately with no expense to taxpayers, per the release.

OSU has already begun working on the project, with the installation of the board itself expected to come in July. The university has Aug. 1 as a target date for completion, a month ahead of the Cowboys' Sept. 1 season opener against Missouri State.

"It's something we really need,” OSU coach Mike Gundy said Wednesday. “It's kind of an arms race in college football now for facilities and video boards and such. That's really the only thing that this facility's lacking.”
