Fiction writers to host meeting

EDMOND — OKC Christian Fiction Writers will host Shel Harrington from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Henderson Hills Baptist Church, 1200 E Interstate 35 Frontage Road.

Harrington will speak on “How to Get Your Name out There When Nobody Knows Your Name.” The presentati­on is designed to demystify the concept of platform and aims to provide specific strategies for building name-recognitio­n. She is a family law attorney and adjunct law professor who teaches family law and related courses. In addition to her published law-related book and articles, Harrington is a frequent writer and speaker on marriage and divorce.

Church will host benefit tea party

Southpoint­e Church OKC is teaming up with Hope is Alive to sponsor the “Arise: Spring Tea and Garden Party” from 10 a.m. to noon April 28 at 13300 Straka Farm Road.

The theme of the event is “Big Hats, Brunch and Benefit.” Clean Spoon home food service will cater the event and entertainm­ent will be provided by a guest band. The Ritzy Gypsy clothing boutique will provide a spring fashion show.

A portion of the $15 ticket price will support Hope is Alive, a ministry that provides sober living tools to former addicts.

The Hope Is Alive Mentoring Homes provide spiritual growth, leadership developmen­t, life skills training and family restoratio­n. Also, an offering will be taken for Hope is Alive at the event.

Southpoint­e OKC partners with Hope is Alive on a bi-weekly basis hosting one of their support groups for families of addicts.

The program is called Finding Hope and meets on the first and third Thursday evening of each month at the church.

College offers music recital

Mid-America Christian University’s School of Music invites the public to the annual School of Music Student Recital at 4 p.m. April 28 at 3500 SW 119.

The recital will be in the university’s Jasco Chapel. It is a culminatio­n of students’ hard work through the school year, and will feature both solo work and small ensemble performanc­es.

Eddie Vandewalke­r, School of Music chair, said guitar, voice, piano and band instrument solos and small ensembles will be presented entirely by students who take private music lessons through the school.

Admission to the recital is free.
