Red Raiders top Sooners 5-4 in extra innings on balk
LUBBOCK, TEXAS — No. 14-ranked Oklahoma fell to No. 4 Texas Tech 5-4 in 10 innings on a walk-off balk Friday afternoon at Rip Griffin Park.
OU right fielder Steele Walker was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double and one RBI.
Right-hander Jake Irvin (5-0) got a no-decision despite pitching into the ninth inning for the Sooners. Irvin allowed two earned runs and five hits while striking out seven.
OU (26-14, 9-4) used five relief pitchers in the final two innings. After putting one run on the board in the top of the 10th, Cade Cavalli (2-2) moved from first base to the mound in the bottom half of the frame.
Cavalli gave up a oneout single to right f ielder Brian Klein and walked third baseman Josh Jung before a double steal put the two runners in scoring position for the Red Raiders (31-8, 9-4). Grand Little tied the game on a slow grounder to shortstop and Jung scored the game-winning run from third on a balk— the first issued by an OU pitcher this season.
Funk lifts Cowboys over Jayhawks
STILLWATER — Christian Funk hit two homers and drove in seven runs as Oklahoma State run-ruled Kansas 12-1 in seven innings in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader.
Funk was 3-for-4 at the plate and his seven RBI were the most by a Cowboy since 2009.
He launched a grand slam in the fourth inning and his two-run homer in the seventh sealed the win for OSU.
Carson Teel earned the win on the mound as he tossed a complete game, striking out six to improve to 5-2 on the season.
