OSU splits doublehead­er in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — No. 25-ranked Oklahoma State split its nonconfere­nce doublehead­er on Friday afternoon, run-ruling South Dakota 9-1 in five innings before falling to No. 1-ranked UCLA 7-2 at Easton Stadium.

In the opener, a six-run third inning helped the Cowgirls earn a run-rule victory.

Emmie Robertson handled duties in the circle, pitching a complete game for the eighth time this season. She surrendere­d five hits, struck out three and allowed no earned runs to improve to 12-4 on the year.

•In the second game, UCLA scored four runs, three of which were unearned, on three hits in the first inning.

In the fourth inning, Whitney Whitehorn provided one of the Cowgirls' two runs when she blasted her second home run of the day.

Samantha Clakley took the loss and fell to 14-7 on the year after allowing four earned runs in 3 1/3 innings of work.

OSU will take on Friday's opponents again on Saturday. The Cowgirls will face South Dakota at 4 p.m. before wrapping up their weekend against UCLA at 9 p.m.

Sooners dominate Longhorns 6-0

NORMAN — Paige Parker earned her fourth shutout of the season as Oklahoma downed Texas 6-0 on Friday.

Jocelyn Alo put the Sooners on the board in the first inning, drilling a solo homer to left-center.

Shay Knighten launched a grand slam in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-0.

The Sooners added an insurance run in the sixth as Nicole Mendes singled to leftcenter to drive in Lea Wodach from second.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday with first pitch at 1 p.m.
