The National Student Council recently recognized the Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School Student Council as a 2018 National Gold Council of Excellence.

The student council recently held elections for the upcoming 2018-19 school year. Those chosen include:

Senior class officers: Victoria Sullivan, president; Jordan Freeman, vice president; and Mollie Pitman, treasurer;

Junior class officers: Lauren Paque, president; Brynden Walker, vice president; and Chris Nguyen, treasurer.

Sophomore class officers: Luke Wienecke, president; Emily McDougall, vice president; and Luke Chansolme, treasurer.

Student council executive board: Maddie Clarke, president; Jude Offiah, vice president; Vivienne Vogler, District X president; Clare Jordan, communications coordinator; Luke Schwartz, parliamentarian; Hannah Segell, historian; Sabrina Lopez, treasurer; Denzel Akuffo, chair of assemblies; Jude Offiah, chair of Olympics; Ford Collier, assistant chair of Olympics; Michael Dwerlkotte, chair of environmental affairs; Emiline Henderson, assistant chair of environmental affairs; Miranda Jelinek, chair of fundraising; Duncan Ille, assistant chair of fundraising; Ethan Silvernail, video productions chair; and Jacob Marino, assistant chair of video productions.

State speech & debate honors

The Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School Speech & Debate Team recently competed in the 2018 State Speech and Debate competition and finished as state runner up in Team Sweeps.

Individual awards went to

Clare Jordan, state champion in prose and state champion in standard oratory; Luke Schwartz, state champion in LD debate; and Bryan Box, state runner up in LD debate.

Wendell Hixson and Lucas Schrantz are state runner up in humorous duet; Veronica Raley, fifth place in original oratory; Harry Brown and Julia Richard, fifth place in humorous duet; Clare Jordan and Wendell Hixson, sixth place in dramatic duet; and

Will Lawson, seventh place in LD debate.
