McElroy signs with Rams
Former Chattanooga High School two-sport star Codey McElroy signed as an undrafted free agent tight end with the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday.
Codey McElroy’s wild journey continues.
The former Chattanooga High School twosport star has played professional baseball and walked on in Division I basketball.
Now in clearly the most surprising turn of events, he has a chance to play in the NFL.
McElroy signed as an undrafted free agent tight end with the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday, his father told The Oklahoman.
McElroy confirmed the signing on his social media accounts.
The 25-year-old stands at 6 feet 6 and 255 pounds and spent the past season playing football at Division II Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant as a walk-on.
He caught 14 passes for 173 yards and five touchdowns.
It was his lone football season since playing quarterback in middle school.
Chattanooga, located south of Lawton, does not play football.
Out of high school, McElroy played baseball at Eastern Oklahoma State before transferring to Texas.
He then transferred home to Cameron before being drafted in 2014 by the Atlanta Braves. A year later, he retired and walked on at Oklahoma State.
In 2016, he was on Wichita State’s baseball coaching staff. But last fall he decided to give football a try.
He walked on at SEOSU. The NFL is his next stop.
