Dentists honored for leadership, service
The Oklahoma Dental Association awarded Dr. Evangeline “Van” Greer with the James A. Saddoris Lifetime of Leadership Award, and Dr. Phoebe Vaughan with the association's Young Dentist of the Year Award.
The James A. Saddoris Lifetime of Leadership Award was created to honor a member dentist who, through a lifetime of service, exemplified the spirit, the devotion and the commitment of its namesake, James A. Saddoris, a Tulsa dentist and 1986 President of the American Dental Association.
Greer, a retired orthodontist, has worked steadily to ensure progression, security, and innovation in the dental profession. The association also honored her with the President’s Leadership Award in 2005, the Dan E. Brannin Award for Professionalism and Ethics in 2013, and the Distinguished Dental Service award in 2015.
The Young Dentist of the Year Award is presented annually to a dentist who has been a part of the profession for 10 years or less, who is an advocate for the profession and their community, and who is making significant contributions to organized dentistry during an important transitional time of their career. Vaughan volunteers for the annual free dental clinic the Oklahoma Mission of Mercy, serves the dental community as a board member and volunteer with D-Dent, and as the lead dentist at the Baptist Mission Center. She currently serves as a director of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry program at the
Oklahoma University College of Dentistry and is the editor of the Oklahoma Dental Association Journal.
