Players to watch at the state meets

The state track and field meets for Classes A through 4A are scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The Class A and 2A meets will be held at Western Heights, with the 3A and 4A meets at Moore.

Field events will begin at 10 a.m. each day, with running events set to start at noon.

Here are some Oklahoma City-area athletes to watch at the state meets:

Boys

Bennett Barnett, MSM,

3A: After winning a cross country championsh­ip last fall, Barnett is back to try and add another trophy in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races.

Malik Carr, Millwood,

3A: Won first in the 400meter race at regionals with a time of 50.80 seconds.

Will Kubicek, OCS, 3A: The senior took home a regional title in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.24.

Will McMurphy, Zach Stephens, Hunter Johnson, Jacob Snyder, Crossings Christian, 2A: The young squad of three sophomores and a freshman finished second at regionals in the 4X200 with a time of 1 minute, 34.33 seconds in the finals, less than a second off the first-place time.

Jamie Nance, Blanchard, 4A: Football star has been impressive this year in track, taking first place at regionals in the 100- and

200-meter as well as the long jump.

Tyler Stuever and Trevor Stuever, Washington, 3A:

The brothers Stuever will compete against each other in the 100-meter race, an event older brother Tyler won at regionals with a time of 11.08.

Brock Hottel and Slayde Little, Purcell, 3A: The Purcell duo finished well above the rest of their competitio­n at regionals as Hottel placed first with a vault over 16 feet and Little finishing right behind.

Girls

Brianna Berry, Millwood,

3A: The speedster was right in the thick of things during regionals, ending up with a third place finish after running 12.68 in the 100-meter dash, just .11 seconds off first place.

Lauren Coates, Hannah Trinary, Maggie Friend and Maia Wright, Luther, 2A: The Luther girls took home a regional championsh­ip when they finished with a time of 51.91 in the 4X100 relay.

Madison Collier, Hennessey, 3A: The freshman has been dominant so far this season, setting national marks in the discuss and taking home a regional championsh­ip in both the discus and shotput.

Victoria Loggins, Star Spencer, 3A: The sophomore finished in second place in the 200-meter race at regionals with a time 26.83.

Annabeth Sampson, OCS, 3A: The sophomore won a regional championsh­ip in pole vault when she launched herself 9 feet, 4 inches.

Haylee Swayze, Purcell, 2A: The senior had her fingerprin­ts all over Purcell’s dominant regional championsh­ip, taking first place in the 200- and 400-meter race as well as running the anchor leg in both of Purcell’s 4X200 and 4X400 wins.
